EXPERIENCE

Helix Technologies, Denver — Head of Data Science/ Analytics

June 2019 - PRESENT

As head of data science, I created a data science department from scratch. This included analyzing 10+ years of raw, untouched, data to create multiple data pipelines in order to monetize the data. The role requires me to manage a team of developers, produce product roadmaps for the suite of products, produce documentation and requirements for the team to follow and develop new algorithms to be utilized within the product lines.

Achievements:

  • Create a business intelligence tool for dispensary owners to use to maximize their profits and tell them how they are performing as a whole from scratch with just one front end developer in just 3 months.

  • Brought machine learning to the cannabis industry. Until my platform, no BI tool in the cannabis space used machine learning to analyze and forecast data predictions for a retail location.

  • Architected a new data platform to ingest data from multiple sources to supply the cannabis industry one of the largest data platforms around.

  • Sold the business intelligence platform to over 200 customers including 2 multiple state operators.

  • Generated over $30k in MMR generated by end of year one while keeping operating costs under $15k/month.

  • Created an off-shore team of developers to minimize cost, saving over $100k a year.

  • Executed deals with outside firms to both utilize our data as well as integrate different data streams into our platform.

Also Energy, Boulder — Data Scientist

May 2017 - November 2018

While at Also Energy, I was responsible for creating the Data Science department. I was able to quickly learn how the business operated and determine what a data scientist could do to help the company grow and stay ahead of the competition. I was successfully able to assist the company in utilizing machine learning to help not only improve their predictive algorithms, but also in creating alerts that would notify customers of potential issues that their system has solely based on the data available to me.

Achievements:

  • Successfully trained neural networks to more accurately predict power output of a solar panel. This model was ~25% more accurate than anything previously created.

  • Created regression models to calculate sun exposure on the fly with variables such as previous day's exposure, weather forecasts and time of year.

  • Developed APIs to allow the C# code base to integrate with my ML models.

Total Hockey, Saint Lous IT Project Manager

August 2012 - August 2015

At Total Hockey, I not only served the role of project manager for their technologies department, but also as an innovations director. As innovations director I identified new technologies and methodologies for bringing retail customers the best brick and mortar experience possible.

Accenture, Chicago Consultant

June 2007 - August 2012

Managing the day to day activities and ensuring my teams completed their work accurately and in a timely manner. Reporting status and ensuring that other teams are informed of my projects timeline and progress was also a large part of responsibilities.
